Club CEO Duxbury Reveals
Watford FC have spent € 255m on 65 new players since their rise to the Premier League in 2015. A few tips for the slightly smaller deals have come from an unusual source: Music legend and Watford’s honorary president Sir Elton John.
All Arrivals and Departures
The “Watford Observer” reported on Watford CEO, Scott Duxbury’s, interview with “Talksport”: “He absolutely has an encyclopedic knowledge of the lower-division players, it is incredible.”
The CEO described his daily involvement with the club: “He is in constant communication both with opinions of how the team has played, opinions on players, who we should be signing. He recommends players that I have not heard of. He watches everything and he has a real knowledge of players and an absolute passion for the football club, it’s not superficial.”
An example of a player who Sir Elton John had his eyes on, was defensive talent Ben Wilmot (19), who was bought by fourth-tier Stevenage FC for € 1.7m in the summer of 2018. The England U20 international came to the train six times for the “Hornets” before being signed to Italian sister club Udinese Calcio.
