Mario Mandzukic risks a ban using retroactive video evidence after he was caught kicking Alessio Romagnoli during Juventus-Milan.
The incident was not spotted by the referee or the VAR during last night’s match, which saw Juve emerge 2-1 winners amid controversy.
Referee Michael Fabbri’s performance was criticised by all the major sports papers in Italy, above all for the decision not to award a penalty after viewing Alex Sandro’s handling offence on the VAR monitor.
He considered the defender to be sliding in and turning away from the ball, so the cross struck the back of his arm as he swivelled.
The incident that could prove more damaging to Juve is that of Mandzukic, who moments after receiving a yellow card was caught on camera kicking out at Romagnoli.
It occurred inside the Milan penalty area, so could’ve even been a spot-kick for the Rossoneri.
As it was not spotted by the referee or VAR and was an off-the-ball incident, Mandzukic could face a ban using video evidence.
Krzysztof Piatek spotted it and was furious with Mandzukic, but led away by his fellow Poland international Wojciech Szczesny.
