The Dutch international centre back is among the most in-demand players in Europe, with Barcelona at the front of the queue to sign the teenager.
Rafael van der Vaart feels Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt would be perfect fit for Bayern Munich
Van der Vaart told German television channel Sport1: ‘Bayern must get De Ligt, he is absolutely a player for Munich.
‘I would advise him to go there, although I always said that he would be a good match for Juventus.
‘Bayern play in central defence with Niklas Sule, Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng, but it is not clear if Hummels and Boateng will remain. So, there would be room for De Ligt. The boy is a great talent, has a lot of quality.’
Barcelona are linked with De Ligt, however van der Vaart feels he should choose Germany
Ajax academy product Van der Vaart made his name in the Bundesliga with Hamburg, before playing Champions League football with Real Madrid and Tottenham.
He feels De Ligt should follow the same pathway, however Barcelona are making their interest in the 19-year-old defender very clear.
Ajax are said to want around £75m for De Ligt – the same amount they got from Barca for De Jong, with the deal agreed in January and due to be completed this summer.
Barca are reportedly willing to sell Samuel Umtiti – a target for Manchester United – in order to finance a move for the Dutchman.
