Tom Hanks has shared his excitement ahead of his favourite team Aston Villa’s clash with Derby County on Monday.
The Hollywood star wrote on Twitter: “On Monday I will bleed claret and blue for Aston Villa. One match away for a return to the Premier League. Up the Villa! Hanx.”
The Cast Away star is often asked about his passion for British football, in particular the Birmingham team.
During an interview in 2015, he was asked about his support for Villa, and had some encouraging words for his team after they were relegated from the Premier League.
“This is a message to all the claret and blue: Hang on.
“There’s not a club in the world that hasn’t experienced this and there’s not a club in the world that hasn’t fought back.
“Aston Villa will see their destiny through. Hang on. Don’t give up. Wear the scarves. Be proud.”
Responding to Hanks’ tweet, Aston Villa said: “Thanks, @TomHanks”, adding a clip of the actor in Forrest Gump waving.
Monday’s Championship play-off final takes place at Wembley at 3pm.
