Today show anchor Deb Knight, 46, has hit out at her reported ‘cat fight’ with co-host Georgie Gardner, 48, after the embattled show’s revamp.

Speaking to Stellar magazine on Sunday, Deb said she was forced to contend with ‘hateful’ rhetoric after the two women debuted as presenters in January.

Referring to the commentary, Deb slammed the reported in-fighting but did admit the two women are very ‘different in style.’

‘Georgie and I have enormous respect for each other. We’re very different people, but I think that’s a good thing because we bring different approaches,’ she said.

Co-host Georgie Gardner also slammed the commentary, adding those same sources who spoke of rivalry also wrongly predicted the two women would obsess over ‘feminist rallies and tampons.’

The Channel Nine breakfast show has struggled against record low ratings, with the critique focused on the historic two women line-up, which is yet to draw in viewers for the show.

Deb went on to slam the commentary around her and Georgie as presenters, which saw the duo get called ‘duds’ after failing to get an upswing in the ratings.

‘A lot of it was just hateful and you have to ignore it,’ she said, adding that the commentary was ‘silly and unfair’ considering it started after their first show.

‘We’re not schoolgirls in a schoolyard. We’re professional people and it shouldn’t matter we’re two women. It disappoints me that has to be the focus.’

Elsewhere, Deb took on detractors who often criticised her outfit choices, with the mother-of-two saying she couldn’t care less what label she is wearing.

In the accompanying shoot, Deborah opted for a number of stylish looks which included a high neck blue dress with red squares.

In a second look, the TV anchor opted for a classic look in red tailored pants and a tailored orange silk top with billowing sleeves.

A third look saw the high-powered journalist wear a floral dress which she paired with a semi-sheer white cardigan, while the cover saw her in a tailored red dress.

The rebooted Today show has struggled to find an audience, with viewers appearing to be unsure of Deb and Georgie, after the high-profile sacking of Karl Stefanovic.

In a shocking twist, Today was seemingly beaten by ABC News Breakfast, however Channel Nine executives have strongly disputed this.

Upon its debut in January, the revamped breakfast show was smashed in the ratings by Sunrise, drawing in a paltry 197,000 metro viewers.

Two months later the show has shown little signs of a revival, with it attracted just 167,000 metro viewers – which marked the lowest figures since 2006.

Despite the noise of the relaunch, it appears the two women still have the confidence of Channel Nine executives.

In a recent statement to TV Tonight, Nine’s Head of Content Production and Development, Adrian Swift, said viewers should give the Today show a chance.

‘The reality is when you change your lineup it takes a long time to bed in,’ he said. ‘We’re not concerned. We are absolutely convinced we will get there.’
