Free agent since the summer
His last few years on the pitch have not been the most spectacular, and now Gabriel Agbonlahor (32, Photo) decided: “The time has come to officially retire and watch as an Aston Villa fan!” So it was announced by the long-term “Lions” professional, who has not officially been active for the club from Birmingham – his Boyhood club – which he has played for in 391 games since 2005, since last summer.

To the top scorers list
The former England international (three appearances in 2008) is almost the player with the most appearances in Villa history – only Gareth Barry (now at West Brom) recorded more games for AVFC (414). The record goal scorer, on the other hand, is Agbanlahor. With 86 goals for the club, he is well ahead of the second placed Dwight Yorke.
Agbonlahor has held the rank as the top scorer for six years. In terms of goals, he has not been particularly active since Villa’s Premier League relegation in 2016. He has only scored twice in the Championship since – his last goal dates back to August 5, 2017. Until his Villa farewell in the summer of 2018, he was only used sporadically.
