During Thursday’s dominant showing in a Game 3 win over the Los Angeles Clippers, Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant received a technical foul.

He and Clippers forward JaMychal Green exchanged words and were hit with a double technical.

A technical for that?

After what appeared a fairly standard exchange between competitive opponents, both players appeared stunned by the call.

NBA rescinds both technicals

Durant told reporters after the game that he was hoping the call would be rescinded.

“We were conversing about the play before, and then someone came out of nowhere and tech’d us both,” Durant said. “Hopefully it gets rescinded.”

League officials agreed with Durant’s sentiment.

The NBA announced Friday that both technical fouls would be rescinded “ upon league office review.”

Big deal for Durant

For Green, it’s not that big of a deal. The Clippers aren’t likely to win another game in their series against Golden State, much less advance to the next round.

But for Durant, it’s significant. Durant picked up a pair of technical fouls in Game 1 while going back and forth with Patrick Beverley.

Thursday’s was his third. A player is suspended for a game when he picks up his seventh technical foul of the playoffs, a lesson the Warriors have already learned the hard way when Draymond Green was suspended during the 2016 NBA Finals they lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Durant’s still on a dangerous pace, but Friday’s news gives him more breathing room as the Warriors seek a third straight championship.
