Ayoze Perez’s hat-trick could be his parting gift to Newcastle United

[ad_1]

Ayoze Perez’s hat-trick could be his parting gift to Newcastle United as Spanish striker admits: ‘In the summer there are going to be options’

Ayoze Perez says he is open to offers this summer — and the timing of a big-money bid could not be more pertinent amid the discord between Rafa Benitez and Newcastle’s hierarchy.

The forward, you see, is exactly the type of player who owner Mike Ashley wants his manager to buy: young and with sell-on value. Newcastle paid Tenerife just £1.5million for Perez five years ago and now, aged 25, he would command a fee in the region of £25m. That is what Ashley likes.

Benitez, though, wants to spend money as he sees fit, such as the £15m it would take to sign West Bromwich loanee Salomon Rondon, who is 30 this year.

Ayoze Perez’s first hat-trick for Newcastle was enough to defeat Southampton on Saturday

If the boss is to remain, then a compromise has to be reached. He also wants a commitment to more ambitious wages in excess of £100,000 a week.

But just as important as recruitment is retention, and keeping Perez at St James’ Park is vital, for the Spaniard is in the form of his life after this fine hat-trick against Southampton.

He knows that, too, and he is doing nothing to deter would-be suitors.

‘In the summer there are going to be options,’ he said. ‘That means I have done something well.

‘I can hear what they offer for me… but it doesn’t mean I am going to leave 100 per cent. It is going to be difficult. It depends on a lot of things. It has been five great years and I cannot thank Newcastle enough.’

That sounds like a parting gesture, and it would be a shame were he to spend his best years elsewhere after half a decade of development on Tyneside.

They played the Latin hit La Bamba inside St James’ at full-time as Benitez and Perez soaked up the adulation.

It will certainly be music to the ears of the Toon Army should the pair still be topping the Gallowgate hit parade next season.

Crystal Palace will let Wilfried Zaha go for £80m this summer

[ad_1]

Crystal Palace ready to sell Wilfried Zaha for £80m but want to keep hold of Aaron Wan-Bissaka

  • Crystal Palace are open to selling Wilfried Zaha this summer but want £80million
  • Arsenal, Tottenham, Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan are all interested in Zaha
  • Multiple clubs also want Aaron Wan-Bissaka but Palace don’t want to sell both

Crystal Palace are open to selling Wilfried Zaha this summer — but want £80million for their most prized asset.

Zaha underlined his intention to leave Palace ahead of next season in an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail on Saturday.

And there is a growing realisation at Selhurst Park that they can no longer keep hold of the Ivory Coast international with the likelihood of their star forward leaving this summer now looking almost inevitable.

But Palace will place a huge price tag on the 26-year-old as they look to maximise his value ahead of their own summer spending spree.

The Mail on Sunday understands Palace will demand between £75m and £80m for the former Manchester United forward.

Zaha is undoubtedly the club’s most influential player and Palace want a fee that reflects his value.

A number of Europe’s top clubs carry an interest in Zaha, including Arsenal with Gunners scouts having watched him intensely this season.

But Arsenal will head into the summer with a restricted budget and, unless the club can be creative in structuring a deal for the Zaha, they are likely to be priced out of the market.

Tottenham have a long-term interest but again the cost attached to the deal could prove a stumbling block.

It remains to be seen whether either Manchester club will emerge as a contender for the forward but there is interest from Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan.

The ongoing situation with Zaha is likely to have an impact on team-mate Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s future.

The Palace right back, 21, is widely rated as one of the brightest talents in England and is also attracting interest from the Premier League’s elite.

But there is a huge reluctance at Palace to sell both Zaha and Wan-Bissaka in the same summer knowing the potential of a backlash from supporters.

Only a huge offer for Wan-Bissaka would tempt Palace into selling their star defender and Zaha in the same window.

Palace fended off interest in Zaha last summer, persuading him to sign a £130,000-a-week, five-year deal that made him their highest earner.

But in Saturday’s interview Zaha said: ‘For me to be better, to achieve what I know I am capable of, I have to aim to play at the very highest level, to win trophies.

‘I have to experience the Champions League. I just need the opportunity, that’s it. And I’ll do the rest.’

Everton inflict humiliating defeat on lethargic Manchester United

[ad_1]

4:0

Manchester United’s season took a drastic turn for the worse as they crashed to a humiliating 4-0 defeat at Everton in the Premier League.
First-half goals from Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson stunned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s lethargic side before Lucas Digne and Theo Walcott piled on the misery at Goodison Park.
The loss was United’s sixth in eight games in all competitions and turned up the heat on Solskjaer and his misfiring players, whose fortunes have slumped since the Norwegian was made permanent manager last month.
United, who remain sixth in the table, have now conceded 48 goals in the Premier League this term, their most in a top-flight campaign since 1979.
They arrived on Merseyside looking to bounce back from their midweek defeat in Barcelona and reinvigorate their top-four push but they never got started.
Romelu Lukaku, restored up front against his former club, struggled to get into the game and Paul Pogba did not impose himself in midfield.
Everton applied all the early pressure, winning a succession of corners and free-kicks that allowed them to create problems in the United box.
The hosts’ first serious opportunity fell to Richarlison following a set-piece. David De Gea produced a brilliant reflex save to keep out the Brazilian’s first effort and the striker turned the rebound wide.
Richarlison was soon to get another chance, however, and this time he made it count. Thirteen minutes had gone when Lucas Digne launched a long throw into the area and Dominic Calvert-Lewin flicked on. Richarlison met it with an acrobatic volley that flew into the net.
United got some relief when Pogba launched a long ball from inside his own half and Marcus Rashford raced in on goal but the England forward’s half-volley flew narrowly over. Rashford also blasted a free-kick over but Everton soon regained control.
Sigurdsson doubled the lead from a quick counter-attack in the 28th minute. Nemanja Matic backed off enough to allow Sigurdsson to cut inside and unleash a fierce low drive from 30 yards. De Gea was slow to react and the ball shot into the bottom corner.
Things could have got worse as Phil Jones needed to produce a fine challenge to cut out another break and Richarlison fired another effort at De Gea after a Diogo Dalot mistake.
The interval failed to re-energise United, who conceded again 11 minutes after the restart.
Everton had suffered a blow by losing Richarlison to injury but it did not dampen their threat and Digne lashed in a long-range shot after De Gea punched clear from a corner.
De Gea also needed to react quickly to kick clear a Sigurdsson corner off the line as it swerved dangerously towards the near post.
Yet there was no hiding place for United. Walcott, who replaced Richarlison, added the fourth as Everton were again allowed to break all too quickly. He was released by Sigurdsson and showed his composure as he closed in on goal to slip the ball past De Gea.
United started to look desperate as Anthony Martial theatrically fell to the ground in the penalty area after minimal contract. The Frenchman blasted another chance wide of target and Rashford shot over before the game petered out.
The United fans voiced their support for Solskjaer but the team’s form is a serious concern with a tricky derby against Manchester City and a clash with Chelsea in the next week.

Sirigu sends warning to Milan ahead of Torino clash | English News

[ad_1]

21 April at 17:15

Torino goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu has spoken to Sky Sport after his club’s 1-0 win over Genoa yesterday; in which he discussed the result as well as the upcoming clash between Torino and Milan – which will be vital in both clubs’ pursuit of European football.

“I made difficult saves, especially against Lerager. It went well and I’m happy for the win and for the team. The season finale will be important for us, we must play well. In every game there are difficulties to overcome, we prepare for the games well but sometimes it’s not easy. In the beginning we were not good on the pitch and we were a bit slow, then things got better.

“The challenge with Milan? I think the main goal at the beginning of the season was to improve last year’s results, now we have so many doors open in front of us and this is important for the growth of the group and the team. We want to play everything in the best possible way. We are satisfied.”

Transfer news: Zidane cagey in response to Bale future | English News

[ad_1]

20 April at 22:45

Real Madrid recently appointed Zinedine Zidane to become their head coach once again; under a year after the Frenchman left the club after a disagreement with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez. Zidane’s appointment has come at a time of struggle for Madrid; who have lost the title race to Barcelona and exited the Champions League from the round of 16 to Ajax.

Zidane spoke at a press conference where he spoke on a couple of topics, including Gareth Bale and his rumoured departure from the club.

“Bale’s future? We haven’t talked about it, now I’m just thinking about the training camp. Reconstruction? I don’t want to expose myself, especially on the names. With the club we will deal with the topic concerning the profiles I need, the leadership knows perfectly what I need.”

Bale has been linked in the past with a move to Manchester United, as well as a potential return to his former club Tottenham Hotspur; with Madrid reportedly interested in Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane.

I think we are a great team, it didn’t go the way we wanted in the Champions League but you can’t always win the Champions League as Ronaldo also said.
