An Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Courtroom in Lagos on Friday ordered
a safety guard, Usman Abdulkareem to be remanded on the Ikoyi Jail for allegedly killing his colleague.
The Justice of the Peace, Mrs A. Kusanu stated the accused would stay remanded, pending the result of authorized recommendation by the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The accused, who’s being tried for homicide, was alleged to have hit his colleague, Augustine Musa, 34, whom he accused of gossiping about him, a improvement he stated received him infuriated.
The Information Company of Nigeria (NAN), stories that Abdulkareem’s plea was not taken because the courtroom lacked the jurisdiction to prosecute such matter.
The Investigative Police Officer (IPO), ASP Gafar Oderinde, instructed the courtroom that the accused dedicated the offence on Dec. 18, at Dangote Oil Refinery, Idasho City, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos state by 9 p.m.
The offence contravenes Part 223 of the Legal Regulation of Lagos State, 2015 and prescribes loss of life sentence for upon conviction.
The Justice of the Peace adjourned till Jan. 30, 2019 for DPP authorized recommendation.
