Powerful photos show the majesty of the world’s fifth highest mountain in all of its glory

Often overshadowed by its infamous neighbour Mount Everest, Makalu is a peak in the Himalayas that many people don’t know about.

But a stunning body of work by British expedition photographer Tim Taylor is set to change that.

His powerful series of black and white images titled Komsos – In Search of the Sublime, capture the true majesty of Makalu, which is the world’s fifth highest summit at 27,824 feet.

Tim, 37, told MailOnline Travel that he ventured to the mountain in 2014 as part of a small team set to climb it for the first time from the challenging south east ridge.

The group of intrepid souls spent nearly three months camping in the freezing cold for their summit bid, which never came about due to the conditions. Summing up the feeling of being in the mountains, Tim replies:  ‘Beautiful, humbling and at times… terrifying!’

Tim will be giving a talk about his photos at The Piper Building in London on February 26 from 6pm and the photos will remain on display until mid-March, with viewings by appointment only.
