Next record transfer: Wolverhampton activates purchase option for Jiménez

“His impact has been fantastic”

Wolverhampton Wanderers chosen the purchase option for Raúl Jiménez (Photo). The 27-year-old striker, who initially came on loan from SL Benfica last summer, will be awarded a contract until 2023.

According to English media reports, the transfer fee is just under 38 million euros. With this transfer, the Mexican striker replaces former loanee Jonny Castro (25) – whose purchase option was also just exercised in January for € 20.5m – as the clubs record transfer. In addition, as a result of the transfer, Jiménez increased his own value to become the most valuable Mexican player.

“The impact Raúl has made during his short time at the club has been fantastic and we’re delighted that he’ll be part of the club’s long-term future,” explained Sporting Director Kevin Thelwell. The striker said, “Since I’ve arrived here it’s all been so good. We’ve had some good moments, some bad moments; but the best ones have been so good and I’m very happy for that.” Jiménez has played in all 32 league games this season for the Wolves. He is the team’s top scorer with 12 goals, and ranks 7th in the Premier League’s standings.
