Interim Update

A few weeks after the start of the season in the Chinese Super League, Transfermarkt has updated several market values. The focus was mainly on players who transferred to China during the last transfer window. These players now have to accept devaluations.

This applies, for example, to Sandro Wagner, who has been signed to Tianjin Teda since the end of January. The market value of the former Bayern striker and German international, who’s team lost 0:1 to Guangzhou Evergrande on its debut on March 8, has been lowered from € 8m to € 6m.

The switch to China had even more apparent effect on the market values of three players who until recently were still in use for top European clubs: Marek Hamsik (Dalian Yifang), Marouane Fellaini (Shandong Luneng) and Mousa Dembélé (Guangzhou R & F). All three – and Wagner – are at an advanced footballing age of 31. A successful future return to the European top, such as that achieved by Dortmund’S Axel Witsel, for example, therefore seems more than questionable.

Even the fees now paid for the trio were far from moving compared to what Chinese Clubs paid for big names in the past, which also affected the new market values. For Example, Hamsik’s value fell from 30 to 22 million euros, while Belgian Duo Fellaini (-3 Million) and Dembélé (-6 Million) are now valued at 12 million euros.
