A stylish new Kmart footstool with a storage compartment is being hailed as a winner by hundreds of Australian mums on social media.  

The budget retailer recently shared a snap of the $39 ottoman online and was soon flooded with a stream of comments praising the chic design and handy storage addition. 

‘I love the Kmart round grey footstool with storage. It is sturdy, practical and pretty,’ wrote Claire, founder of the popular Instagram page The Kmartlover.

‘Whether you fill with throw rugs, books or kids toys it is the perfect accessory to your home.’

It’s clear from the number of likes Claire’s post received (almost 1,200 at the time of writing) the well-priced home decor piece is set to be a hit.

As well as many saying they were keen to purchase the piece, the blogger’s followers also questioned her as to how sturdy the footstool really was and just how much it actually held.

In reply to one person who asked whether the ottoman was safe to sit on, Claire assured the poster, that indeed it was:

‘It holds me, and I weigh about 70kg, 68 on a good day!’

In response to a question about storage, the blogger advised: ‘It’s gorgeous and it fits a lot in too.’

According to information on Kmart’s website, the footstool, which comes with a ‘concealed storage space’ can carry a maximum storage weight of about 5kg.

It measures approximately 30cm in height and 56cm in diameter and is also collapsible.

Mums were keen on the piece as a stylish toy box while others said it is perfect for storing cushions.

‘I feel like we need this… it would look good and would hide toys,’ one woman wrote. 

‘I don’t even have my own couch but if I did, I’d buy so many of these,’ another added.
