Keanu Reeves stole the show ahead of video games conference E3 with the cinematic trailer for the hotly-anticipated game Cyberpunk 2077.
The video is more than a cameo according to Reeves, who told the audience “I’m always drawn to fascinating stories,” suggesting he had a more prominent role in the game.
The John Wick star, and hero of cyberpunk classics The Matrix and Johnny Mnemonic, told the audience: “You’re breathtaking. You’re all breathtaking.”
He then confirmed that the video game, adapted from the tabletop game Cyberpunk 2020, has been scheduled for release on Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on 16 April 2020.
Despite being first announced in 2012 by CD Project, the production studio behind The Witcher series, Cyberpunk 2077 has taken longer than expected to win a release date.
Fans of cyberpunk fiction have been excited by the inspiration cited for the game, from the tabletop Cyberpunk 2020 through to cinematic masterpiece Blade Runner.
E3 – or the Electronics Entertainment Expo – is the world’s largest video games conference and will officially run from Tuesday to Thursday this week.
It comes as Microsoft organised pre-conference sessions and announced that the latest Xbox console will be launched at the end of next year.
The tech firm described the console, known as Project Scarlett, as the “most powerful and highest-performing console” it has ever made.
It added that a new streaming service, Project xCloud, will also be launched in October.
Microsoft said it would start with a preview, letting players stream games from an Xbox One console to a mobile device – similarly to Google’s new games streaming platform Stadia.
