Super Eagles duo, Odion Ighalo and Shehu Abdullahi have expressed their delight after receiving Complete Sports recognition awards for their immense contributions to sports development in Nigeria.
Ighalo and Abdullahi were billed to receive their awards during the inaugural Complete Sports Celebrity Workout at The Palms Lekki,Lagos, on December 29 2018, but they were unavoidably absent.
The Super Eagles stars were presented with their awards in Alexandria, Egypt on Saturday.
The two players are currently part of the Super Eagles team competing for honours at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Ighalo scored two goals and provided an assist in Nigeria’s 3-2 win against defending champions Cameroon – in the Round of 16 encounter at the Alexandria Stadium on Saturday.
The Shanghai Shenhua of China striker who was also named man of the match after the game is now joint top scorer in the competition, alongside Senegal’s Saido Mane.
Shehu Abdullahi has featured in one game for the Super Eagles in Egypt due to injury.
“It is a good thing to receive a big award like this from Nigeria’s number one leading sports paper and website. I thank the management of the company and I hope to win more of this in future, “Ighalo told Completesports.com.
An elated Abdullahi also showed his appreciation on receiving the award.
“I want to thank Complete Sports for this big award. I am happy and this will spur me to continue working hard on the pitch,” the Bursaspor defender said.
