Fiorentina have confirmed that they are taking legal action against those who left ‘shameful’ messages about Davide Astori on their social accounts.
Astori was targeted by some individuals after Fiorentina were awarded a controversial penalty against Inter on Sunday, the Viola made it clear they would not tolerate such conduct.
“Fiorentina are dismayed and deeply saddened by the succession of shameful messages posted by some individuals, who targeted Davide Astori on the club’s social channels,” read a statement on the club’s official website.
“The club are in constant contact with the relevant authorities so that these jackals are deservedly prosecuted.
“We continue to believe in sport and the values it represents. An incident like this cannot trigger senseless rage, and we call on the real fans to distance themselves from these worthless individuals.”
The defender was Fiorentina’s captain before his tragic passing 11 months ago.
