‘Facing Juventus beautiful and strange’

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gigi Buffon says it would be “beautiful and strange” to play against Juventus, but doesn’t want to meet them in the Champions League final.

The 40-year-old left the Bianconeri in the summer after 17 years in Turin, having made more appearances than any player bar Alessandro Del Piero.

“It would be beautiful and strange,” Buffon told Corriere della Sera, when asked about the prospect of facing Juve in Europe.

“But I’d go back to my stadium, among my fans, who I left in an emotional manner. A reunion.

“If it was the final though it’d be hard to manage things after the game: I’d want to have the freedom to cheer wildly in case of victory.”

After Buffon left, Cristiano Ronaldo arrived – does he regret not playing with CR7?

“I’ve played with a lot of champions, and I always want to test myself with the best, including him. It’s not like there are none in Paris though, [Kylian] Mbappé and Neymar have that kind of pedigree.”

The veteran was then asked if Juventus will ever miss him.

“I don’t think so, because that’s a club that plans everything so well that it’s hard for there to be wrong choices. They’re a war machine in that respect too.

“The Champions League? They’re certainly among the big contenders, but the strongest team doesn’t always win. Especially in a shorter tournament, it’s sometimes the bravest who win.”
