ELECTION TRIBUNAL: Bulkachuwa tells Atiku, PDP to file application seeking her disqualification -Video

The Chairman of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, on Wednesday directed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to file a formal application asking her to step down as a member of the tribunal

This formed the resolution of the meeting the panel members held with lawyers appearing in the case earlier on Wednesday.

Announcing the tribunal’s decision, Justice Bulkachuwa said that the petitioners’ legal team led by Dr. Livy Uzoukwu (SAN), asked her to recuse herself from the panel at the meeting held in chambers.

Recall that the PDP through its National Chairman, Uche Secondus had in a letter demanded that she disqualify herself from further participation in the panel.

Thereafter, Uzoukwu notified the court that his team would file a formal application to that effect on Thursday.

Atiku and the PDP are challenging the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari who was the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the February 23 presidential election.

The petitioner had requested a private meeting with members of the Tribunal.

Present at the meeting were the respondents’ lawyers including Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) for Buhari,, Yunus Usman (SAN) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) for APC.

Consequently, the matter was adjourned till May 22 for hearing of the petitioners’ application.
