Edo: Police nab 69 ‘cultists’, 42 ‘armed robbers’, others

Sixty-nine suspected cultists are currently cooling their feet in Edo state police command cells following a raid on them by operatives.

The development came amidst renewed cult clash between black axe and Eiye confraternity groups which has left six persons dead in different parts of Benin city, the state capital.

Edo state police commissioner, Lawan Jimeta, who disclosed this during a media briefing said the suspects were apprehended in the last five weeks.

Jimeta disclosed that 42 suspected armed robbers were also arrested within the period under review, adding that 20 others are also in custody for kidnappings.

He stated that four kidnapped victims rescued by the operatives have since been reunited with their families.

The CP who further disclosed that the command had decongested its cells by granting bail to suspects with bailable offences, said, “28 others have been charged to court.”

“The arrests were made possible due to the assistance of sister security agencies, and the cooperation of the good people of Edo state in volunteering credible information.”
