Eagles Come Stronger Vs Big Teams; Will Beat Cameroon

Henry Nwosu has told Completesports.com he has no reason to fret over Super Eagles’ fate in their AFCON 2019 Round of 16 match against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon on Saturday, saying the Nigerian team always step up their game against strong oppositions, including Cameroon are are their archrival.

Nwosu admits that the three-time African Champions were not convincing in their 2-0 defeat to Barea of Madagascar in their last Group B match, having already qualified for the Round of 16 with two previous wins against Burundi and Guinea. He believes that things will change this time around.

“I’m confident of the Super Eagles’ victory against Cameroon,” Nwosu told Completesports.com on Wednesday.

“The Eagles’ best come whenever the opposition is strong, and against a team like the Indomitable Lions, the players will give their all to the match.

“They would want to prove to Nigerians that the game against Madagascar wasn’t a true reflection of their potential.

“And of course, don’t forget the rivalry between Nigeria and Cameroon which will also come into play too.

“Don’t forget too that the Super Eagles players are hungry for a trophy and this is an opportunity for them to get just that because a win against Cameroon will take them one step closer to their dream.”

Nwosu, during his illustrious career featured in several Nations Cup finals including his debut appearance in 1980 in Lagos when he was just 17 years old.

In 1988 in Morocco, Nwosu’s header off Ndubuisi Okosieme’s cross from the right was disallowed by the referee on grounds of offside, drawing wide criticisms from football freaks.

He had equally featured for the U20s and also coached the various grades of the national teams including the U17s in 2009.

The Nigeria – Cameroon crunchy tie has is slated for Alexandria on Saturday, with the winner billed to confront the winner of Egypt vs South Africa in the quarter-finals.
