Covid-19 death toll in Borno state has risen to six, after three new deaths were announced by the State Response team.
The state Commissioner of Health, Dr Salihu Kwayabura, who made announcement during the daily media briefing, Tuesday evening, said the three deaths are all independent of each other and have no link with the index case in the state.
This according to him is an indication that community spread has begun which necessitates the need for a review of strategy by the team.
Consequently, the surveillance team has commenced the tracing of 230 people of interest believed to be contacts of the deceased.
Dr. Kwaya Bura also said plans were on course to use the Microbiology Department of the University of Maiduguri for an additional test centre to increase the capacity to 1,000 tests per day.
Responding to the questions on whether the three additional deaths were contacts of the index case from Pulka or the case from Biu community, the commissioner said they were from different sources.
The commissioner kept mute over what led to the death of Emir of Bama who died recently.
