COVID-19: Anambra gets 166 isolation beds as UBA, others offer help

Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, Thursday, said the state has equipped its three established coronavirus isolation centres with 166 beds facilities.

Obiano, addressing a press conference in a mask at Aguleri, his country home, said the facilities were fixed in case of emergency since the state was yet to record positive to the pandemic, as according to him, out of nine blood samples sent for screening, four were declared negative, while results of five were being awaited.

According to him, 250-bed Isolation Center were set at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Mbaukwu/Umuawulu, and 16-bed Isolation Centre at the General Hospital Onitsha, while Access Bank and Fidelity Bank had agreed to equip Surge Centers at Ekwulobia General Hospital and Umueri General Hospital with 60 bed facilities respectively.

He added that the state government has mobilised President Generals and Traditional rulers to distribute 200 bags of rice each to indigent citizens between the ages of 70 across 181 communities, even as traders in the state had been given a 10% relief on personal income taxes.

The governor gave names of corporate bodies and individuals who have donated to the state for fight of corona virus as UBA Plc – N28, 500,000; Ibeto Petrochemical – N10m; J I Ejison of Ejison International Ltd – N5m; Chief Ken Nwogbo – N5m; Chief Ejeson Ukeje – N5m and Chief Daniel Chukwudozie of Dozzy Oil – N2m.

Others were Senator Victor Umeh – N2m; His Royal Highness, Igwe Gerald Mbamalu, Igwe Ojoto – N1m; Godwin Chukwunenye Ezeemo– N500,000; Obinna Okechukwu Nwosu – N3000; 7Com Enterprises N2000; Dr Ernest Azudialor Obiejesi – 4000 Facial Masks and 900 Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).

He, however, noted that Engineer Arthur Eze, Dr Cosmas Maduka, Chief Innocent Chukwuma (Innoson), Sir Emeka Offor, Chief Chidi Anyaegbu (Chisco), Emma Bishop Okonkwo (Ekulo Group) and Chief Allen Onyema (Air Peace) had pledged to offer various supports.

Obiano, who equally announced tax waiver to commercial transporters in the state, urged community leaders to profile tailors to sew masks for them as the state government would soon commence distribution of 3 million masks to residents across 181 communities and fumigation of 63 markets against infections.
