Coronation Street’s Simon Gregson poses for selfies as he enjoys a quiet lunchtime pint… after set was targeted by thieves while actor filmed dramatic knife scenes

That drama surrounding his latest storyline was forgotten as Coronation Street star Simon Gregson enjoyed a quiet pint during a break between scenes on Monday.

The actor, best known for his role as Steve McDonald, paid a visit to the Docklands Pub in Manchester’s Media City, a stone’s throw from the long-running soap-opera’s Salford Quays home.

Gregson, 44, was joined by friends while occupying an outdoor table, where he downed a Guinness and smoked a cigarette while enjoying the unseasonably warm weather.

Somewhat inevitably the actor was soon recognised by passing fans, and he was happy to oblige their various requests for selfies.

With temperatures steadily rising Gregson looked relaxed in a T-shirt and tinted Aviator sunglasses while posing for a handful of snaps.

The show regular was taking a short break from the set just days after he was targeted by thieves while filming scenes for an explosive new armed robbery plot.

The unusual incident, which took place at midday on Friday, occurred as the new scenes were filmed on location in Bolton.

The latest storyline sees Steve embroiled in more trouble after he unwittingly becomes a getaway driver following an armed robbery.

But as the scenes were being filmed, opportunistic thieves targeted a nearby storage unit base – making off with a storage generator.

An ITV spokeswoman told The Mirror: ‘We can confirm a small domestic generator was stolen during a low-level opportunistic theft from the unit base of filming today for Coronation Street whilst the crew were on location in Bolton.’

The film’s cast and crew weren’t at the unit base when the alleged theft took place, and filming is reported to have been unaffected.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: ‘Greater Manchester Police were yesterday called to reports of a suspected armed robbery at around 11.30am.’

Spoiler pictures for the ITV soap reveal that things are set to get worse for cab driver Steve as his dangerous passenger, called Dave, turns violent.

Images from scenes filmed last week show the two characters in a dark, grotty alleyway with Steve appearing to beg for his life.

As he cautiously exits his cab, Steve is seen trying to calm the newcomer who is wielding a large kitchen knife, although the outcome is unknown.

The new scenes are set to air on May 17.
