First we would like to say thanks for viewing our article. We hope you find it helpful whether you purchase a turnkey website from eBay or another online auction. Good Luck!!!
We wrote this article to give you enough information to make “somewhat” of an educated guess.
We say “somewhat” because not every aspect of buying an eBay website can be covered in this article. It would take a full blown book!
Why are we qualified to write this article? We are an actual Web Development Company who has been Hosting, Developing, and Optimizing Websites for over Nine years. We have developed everything from local based sites to complete eCommerce sites for global campaigns.
We are based in Michigan (state with the most lost businesses). As with most small businesses in Michigan we have had to resort to more creative ways of creating market share. Here we are on eBay.
Buying a “pre-established Turnkey Website on eBay can be a very quick and easy way to get you on the internet affordably. If you design, developed and optimize your own site it may take you weeks or even months to get up and running. This way you can just jump right on and start promoting and marketing your new site.
. . . . . With all that said let’s get going! . . . . . .
Its’ Really All In the Domain Name!
A True Turnkey Website should include a domain name or give you the option to choose a domain name for the site.
A proper domain name should be keyword rich! By keyword rich I mean it should have at least one site theme keyword in the name. For example: if your site is dog breeding then the domain name should have the word dog in it at the very least. MyDogDomain.com OR MyDogBreedingDomainName.com
Having a keyword rich domain name will help with search engine placement as well.
What About The Website Itself?
The Turnkey Website should have these qualities: . . . . .
- A professional inviting design
- All content relevant & flowing – matching the site theme
- Bare minimum graphics – large graphics take awhile to load
- Web accessible – accessible to a wide range of viewers
- at least two income streams
A little more about Web Accessibility – Accessible Web design is the art of creating WebPages that are accessible to everyone, using any device. It is especially important so that people with disabilities – whether due to accident, disease or old age – can access the information in Web pages and be able to navigate through the website. Wikipedia has a great article about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_accessibility
Is The Site Easy To Maintain?
After all as a website owner you should be spending your time promoting and marketing your website not performing maintenance. Although, some maintenance will be required for any website no matter how large or small, but all in all your website should be working for you.
What ever Turnkey Site you choose should contain some type of automatically updating content, news, items for sale, links, videos, etc. This helps dramatically with search engine placement. Search Engines love fresh updating content.
Ask your eBay Seller if their sites contain automatically updating content. If not, you may want to ask if they have any affordable site upgrades that can make your site more automatic.
What About Web Hosting?
There are a couple of things to be concerned with when dealing with Turnkey Website Hosting.
1.) You should never pay over $5.95 / Month for Web Hosting. $5.95 / Month is a fair price for both the seller as well as the buyer. It costs money to run a Web Hosting Server – There are support, backups, and daily maintenance to be performed.
2.) Is the hosting expandable as your website grows and how much will it cost to expand it? Once your site takes off you will want the peace of mind knowing that your Hosting Provider will be there for you. You may also want to ask if you can change hosting if it is not working out.
Ask questions before you purchase a Turnkey Website – This will give you a chance to see how good the sellers support really is.
What is SEO (Search Engine Optimization)?
SEO is a buzz word that has been around for awhile now, it basically means Search Engine Optimization. Performing certain procedures to get your site listed with the major search engines. Most good traffic that you will receive will come from search engines.
Any site that you buy or create you should have these done at a bare minimum:
- Relevant title, description, and keyword meta tags
- A .xml sitemap & a .html sitemap
- Targeted keywords and key phrases integrated into site theme
- Automatically updated content
- Hand coded w/properly content specific named files & pages
- Robots.txt file
How Do I Make Money With My Turnkey Website?
Every website needs a way to generate income from your visitors. Generating income could can take on many forms.
- Revenue through affiliate marketing – eBay, ClickBank, Amazon, Google Adsense
- A physical product that you stock or manufacture
- A service based website to sell your services
- Selling digital products
- Monetized site promoting Google Adsense
We try to incorporate at least four income streams into our Turnkey Websites any more than that and it can be quite problematic, in that it is hard to keep track of everything. We stick to the four major internet revenue producers.
- Google Adsense
These four are some of the biggest most successful site on the internet today – We have found that by partnering with them gives us and our clients the most success.
How To Avoid getting SCAMMED!
Buyer Beware! — If it sounds too good it probably is.
Use a good common sense judgment before buying a Turnkey Website!
If the seller is claiming that it is making $10,000 a month and you can buy it for $399.00 – That just doesn’t make sense!
Why would I sell you a website for $399.00 if it is generating 10K a month? I wouldn’t and neither would anyone else!
If you insist on buying one anyway ask a ton of questions – ask to see proof of every kind – Ask to see the traffic reports, to make that kind of money you would need a ton of traffic to your website every day.
Established Website OR Pre- Established Website?
There are many eBay Website Sellers that are claiming to be selling an “Established Website” when really they should be advertising them as “Pre-Established Websites”.
For a website to be “established” it will be receiving traffic on a regular basis, which can take anywhere from 6 – 12 months.
A Pre-Established” Website is one that is established in the fact that most of the design and development is done as well as basic SEO has been performed.
You can get a really great website from eBay just use some good old common sense and ask a lot of questions before purchase.
