By the power of Netflix… New He-Man series announced | Ents & Arts News

By the power of Netflix, He-Man is back – with a new series planned to pick up where the original 1980s show left off.

Masters Of The Universe: Revelation will be an animated series, returning to Castle Grayskull and the realm of Eternia and focusing on some key storylines that have remained unresolved for decades.

The original animated series, launched in 1983 and inspired by Mattel toys, saw hero He-Man and his pet feline Cringer, aka Battle Cat, fighting for good against evil archenemy Skeletor.

Filmmaker Kevin Smith, best known for 1990s comedies Mallrats, Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back and cult classic Clerks, is writer and an executive producer for the new show.

He announced the news at a Power-Con convention on Sunday and also tweeted to thank Mattel and Netflix for “letting me play in your universe”.

Rob David of Mattel TV and writer and director Kevin Smith delighted He-Man fans at 2019 Power-Con with his announcement of a new anime show coming to Netflix: Masters of the Universe: Revelation

In his post, he referenced one of the original baddies, promising fans that the new show will “not be a Stinkor!”

Netflix sci-fi and fantasy account NX hinted that the new series could tell the “epic tale of what may be He-Man and Skeletor’s final battle”.

The official Masters Of The Universe account tweeted: “Get ready for Masters of the Universe: Revelation, an animated @netflix show from @ThatKevinSmith that will pick up where the 80s show left off! #MOTU.”

It follows the announcement of a new but unconnected Masters Of The Universe film, which is due to be released in 2021.

And Netflix has already launched She-Ra And The Princesses Of Power, a reboot of the 1985 series based on He-Man’s twin sister, with the first series starting last year.
