The 26-year-old has spent the last 15 months on loan at Championship side Middlesbrough who are also keen to sign him on a permanent deal in the summer.

Besic has two years left on his contract at Everton but is not in Marco Silva’s plans and it is understood they would listen to offers of around £9million.

Bosnia international Besic was signed by Roberto Martinez after he impressed with a man marking job on Lionel Messi against Argentina during the 2014 World Cup.

A series of hamstring injuries and a cruciate ligament injury meant he drifted out of the picture at Goodison but he has returned to form under Tony Pulis at Middlesbrough and was man of the match against Bolton Wanderers last week.

Everton have a number of options ahead of Besic and will consider all offers.
