Batshuayi & Benteke set to leave Crystal Palace – striker search in the Bundesliga

“My future lies with Palace,” Crystal Palace’s courted striker Wilfried Zaha said most recently in an issued statement to settle stirrups. “I’m not thinking about anything else,” said the 26-year-old. He is the “Eagles” top scorer in the current season with eight goals and assists. Lately he has been linked mostly with Borussia Dortmund. While Zaha’s future is apparently cleared up, it is still completely open who will be alongside the striker in the future.

According to the Belgian daily “Het Laatste Nieuws,” both Michy Batshuayi (Photo) and Christian Benteke are due to leave the club in the summer. The two strikers have failed to convince so far this season. Benteke, who fell out for months with a knee injury in the first half of the season, has had 13 appearances without a goal in the ongoing Premier League season. Batshuayi, signed by loan from Chelsea FC in January as a replacement and alternative for Benteke, also failed to greatly impress with two goals in nine games.

It is said that the main reason for the decision to transfer the players is to reduce salary costs at the London Club. Currently, Crystal Palace is spending around 80 percent of their total budget on salaries. The two Belgian strikers are among the top earners at the club. According to the report, Batshuayi receives an annual salary of just under 6.8 million euros gross, while Benteke earns even more, at around € 7.5m – too much for two attackers without guaranteed goals.

For Ex-BVB pro Batshuayi, Chelsea are expected to demand around € 45m for a fixed commitment in the summer. A Sum which does not appear to be justified by the services shown. Record signing Benteke, meanwhile, has a poor standing under Palace coach Roy Hodgson and barely gets in the squad. Signed from Liverpool for € 31.2m in the summer of 2016, the London club are said to be even prepared to let the 28-year-old leave the club on a free transfer, and dismantle the contract, which is valid until 2021. However, Crystal Palace are still hoping for a lucrative offer from China.

According to “Het Laatste Nieuws,” the Bundesliga is where the Premier League club is likely to find successors for the striker position. Last summer, Crystal Palace secured one of the most valuable free agents from the Bundesliga: FC Schalke 04’s Max Meyer (23). Max Kruse is currently on their List. “Max wants to wait and see if a top club still comes from a top league. We will still need some patience. By the middle of May, at the end of May, we should know in which direction he is going,” Werder managing director Frank Baumann said on Thursday, looking ahead to the strikers expiring contract.
