Barça delegation in Amsterdam: Todibo integrated into de Ligt deal?

Spanish media reports

Representatives from FC Barcelona will be in Amsterdam on Monday and Tuesday at the European Club Association’s annual general meeting. As the Spanish newspapers “Mundo Deportivo” and “Sport” report in unison, the Barça executives want to take advantage of the opportunity and attempt again to sign Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt (Photo, 19) – with Jean-Clair Todibo (19) as another selling point in the deal.

Accordingly, Barça’s delegation led by President Josep Maria Bartomeu is in the same hotel as the representatives from the Dutch club. While trying to sign de Ligt, the president said that it is beneficial for Barça, that the two clubs involved maintain a very good relationship. In addition, according to “Mundo Deportivo,” the Spanish champion is also the desired destination for de Ligt, who said after the game against Germany: “I will talk about my future next week. I haven’t made up my mind yet.”

Ajax player Frenkie de Jong (21), is already set to join the Catalans in the summer for a € 75m transfer fee. A similarly high sum is now said to be demanded from Ajax for his teammate as well.

“Sport” reports that in order to be able to secure the deal financially, and provide Ajax another reason for them to sell, Barça are promising a transfer from Frenchman Todibo. Todibo only moved from FC Toulouse to the Spaniards in January, but has not yet played for LaLiga’s Leader. It is intended that Todibo would join Ajax by loan to help fill the gap that de Ligt would leave at Ajax. The proposed loan deal, replacement for de Ligt, is even said to happen before the Semi-final matches in the Champions League (April 30, 1 May).

Whether Barcelona can still afford a second transfer on de Jong’s scale this summer, is considered questionable with the current circumstances. Most recently, speculation arose that Barça would be willing to transfer Philippe Coutinho (26). Ivan Rakitic, 31, and Arsenal FC’s Denis Suárez, 25, are also considered sales candidates. The object of desire, on the other hand, has continued to be Luka Jovic (21): According to information from “Mundo Deportivo,” a second Barça delegation with sporting director Éric Abidal is in Lisbon on Monday night to watch the concord striker play in Serbia’s match against Portugal.
