Arsenal, West Ham and Inter Milan options for Antonio Valencia as Manchester United full-back prepares to depart Old Trafford in the summer
- Antonio Valencia is poised to leave Manchester United for free in the summer
- Ecuadorian right-back’s contract expired and United missed chance to renew
- His father and agent says Arsenal, West Ham and Inter interested in 33-year-old
Arsenal are interested in signing Antonio Valencia from Manchester United this summer, according to the player’s father and agent.
The 33-year-old full-back is out of contract at the end of the season and United have missed the deadline to trigger a one-year extension.
But it appears Valencia isn’t short of interest from elsewhere with a number of English and European clubs interested in the Ecuadorian, who wouldn’t cost them anything.
Antonio Valencia is attracting interest from Arsenal, West Ham and Inter Milan as he prepares to leave Manchester United in the summer following the expiry of his contract
The 33-year-old right-back has played in only eight matches for United this season so far
Luis Valencia told El Universal: ‘He definitely will not continue in Manchester.
‘He wants a change in the air and the club is not going to renew him either. Like everything in life, everything comes to an end.
‘Arsenal, West Ham, Inter Milan and one club from China are options, but in football everything is changing.
‘He wants to choose the best option, but above all he wants to sign a contract for two years.
‘Not for the money, but for peace and hopefully, he told me, be hired by a team that fights for important things.’
Valencia has enjoyed a successful decade with United, winning six major pieces of silverware
Valencia has played 338 times for United since signing from Wigan back in 2009. He has also contributed 25 goals and 62 assists for the Old Trafford club.
During his decade with the club, Valencia has won two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, two League Cups and the UEFA Europa League.
He has twice been voted the Players’ Player of the Year at United, most recently in 2017.
But his time at the club seems to be drawing to its natural conclusion and Valencia has played in just eight matches this season because of injuries and the emergence of Diogo Dalot.
If he went to Arsenal, Valencia could provide experienced back-up to Hector Bellerin on the right-side of defence, though Ainsley Maitland-Niles can play the position.
