The two clubs held preliminary talks over the 21-year-old Senegal international following the first leg in Brittany.
Sarr has been on Arsenal’s radar for several months having been identified as a potential signing by former head of recruitment Sven Mislintat.

And, according to Goal France, the Gunners made a move after seeing Sarr run their defence ragged in the first leg of the last-16 tie.
It was Sarr who was brought down by defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos to receive a second yellow card in the defeat.
Arsenal recovered to beat Rennes 3-0 in Thursday night’s second leg at the Emirates Stadium, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scoring twice and Ainsley Maitland-Niles getting the other.

Sarr attracted interest from a number of European clubs following impressive performances for Senegal at the World Cup last summer.
He played the full 90 minutes of all three of Senegal’s group matches in Russia, with the African nation only eliminated because they’d accumulated more yellow cards than Japan.
Sarr has scored 10 goals in 37 matches for Rennes this season, including four in their now finished Europa League run.
