“Our plan is to find young talent from clubs whose job, in addition to playing football, is also to train and sell players,” President Josep Maria Bartomeu most recently explained about FC Barcelona’s transfer strategy. In addition to Brazil and France, the Netherlands is “of particular interest.” There, the Catalans seem to have found what they were looking for once again.

According to concurring information from the Dutch regional newspaper “Dagblad van het Noorden” and the public broadcaster “RTV Noord,” the Spanish club is interested in signing Ludovit Reis (Photo) from FC Groningen. The 8th placed Eredivisie side is in talks with José Mari Bakero, head of Barça’s junior department. The 56-year-old Spaniard has already been on the scene several times in Groningen to discuss the possibilities of a transfer.

Reis moved from SV Hoofddorp’s youth team to FC Groningen’s in 2015. Two years later, the central midfielder was given a professional contract, which is valid until June 30, 2021. In total, Reis played in 44 games for Groningen, scoring twice. Barça are reportedly currently preparing a bid for the Dutch U19 international, the basis of which the board of FC Groningen will decide whether or not the deal will be done. The offer is due to arrive at the club next week. Groningen chief executive Hans Nijland did not want to confirm or deny the interest from Catalans.

With Ajax’s pro Frenkie de Jong (21), Barça have already fixed a summer transfer (for € 75m) from the Eredivisie for the next season. De Jong’s teammate Matthijs de Ligt (19) is also said to be going towards the Spanish club. “I know what’s going to happen to him, but it’s not the moment to talk about it,” Bartomeu said last while speaking to “ESPN.” A 70 million euro fee is projected for the central defender.
