Amy Adams has signed on to star in Netflix‘s adaptation of Hillbilly Elegy, which has Ron Howard pegged to direct.

Howard’s production company Imagine Entertainment has been developing the adaptation since 2017, when they acquired the rights to J.D. Vance’s 2016 memoir.

Netflix came aboard in January when they won a massive bidding war for the rights, which they paid upwards of $45 million.

Hillbilly Elegy is a memoir that describes author J.D. Vance’s roots in Appalachian Kentucky, and how they related to growing up in Middletown, Ohio.

The book follows three generations of Vance’s Appalachian family, told by Vance, as a Yale law student forced to return back home.

There is no indication yet who Adams may portray, but it’s possible that she may play Vance’s mother, who had struggled with addictions to heroin and pain medications.

The book Hillbilly Elegy was published in 2016 and quickly made the New York Times’ Best Sellers List later that year.

The book won an Audie Award in 2016 for best non-fiction book and it reached the top of the New York Times Best Sellers List again in January 2017.

The book was also mentioned during the 2016 Presidential campaign of Donald Trump, since Vance helps describes the Trump’s base that fueled his rise.
