This is the first question people ask when trying to order a product.
First, let me give you a simple overview of aliexpress.

- A lot of product reviews: Hardly will you find a product that someone has not bought and sent their feedback. This by far to me, the most important.
4. How Account Opening / Login in Done?
Before you purchase anything on aliexpress, you will need to create an account with them.
How can create an account on aliexpress?
To create account you’ll need an email, password, mobile number, and shipping Address ( This can be your home or office address).
Opening an account doesn’t take more than 5 minutes. You can even signup using your google, Facebook, or Twitter account.
To log in, you enter your email and password. If you use google, Facebook, or Twitter to register then you’ll need to log in with it.
5. Shipping Method and Delivery
aliexpress has several service shipping methods they use to deliver items to customers around the world.
Each of these shipping services has its way of treating customers’ orders.
Does aliexpress ship to Nigeria?
Very well, they do. You can order a product and get it in Nigeria. You simply select a shipping method of your choice.
Here is a list of shipping methods that ships to Nigeria:
- aliexpress Standard Shipping
- China Air Post Registered Mail
- Singapore Post
- POS Malaysia
- and the list goes.
Choosing a shipping method depends on the item or seller you’re buying from. Some products display multiple shipping methods for you to choose one.
While other products you might just see a single shipping method.
How long will it take for my item to get to Nigeria
This depends on the Shipping Method you selected on the order page.
Here is a list of common Shipping Methods you will find on aliexpress and their delivery time:
- aliexpress Standard Shipping ( 20–35 days / three to four weeks on average)
- China Air Post Registered Mail ( 23–43 days / three to five weeks)
- Singapore Post ( 22–42 days / three to five weeks)
- POS Malaysia (34–54 days / four to six weeks)
- UPS ( 14–23 days / two to three weeks)
- FedEx ( 7–15 days / within two weeks )
- EMS ( 15–27 days / two to four weeks)
- DHL ( 9–18 days / two to three weeks)
On average, I order a product from aliexpress and expect it in three to four weeks. Regardless of the shipping method, I selected. I’m already used to this time duration.
Which shipping option do you think is perfect?
None! From experience, DHL, FedEx, and EMS would deliver your item quickly to your doorstep but at a higher price.
I always suggest people use aliexpress Standard Shipping or China Air Mail for items with low prices or less quantity of items.
If you’re ordering multiple numbers of items like 15–30 (intending to sell), you need to be ready to handle clearing from custom. You could be called to clear your orders in Nigeria.
Each of this method has its own shipping fee, and from my experience, China Air Post Register Mail and aliexpress Standard Shipping are the cheapest.
For those considering DHL because of its relatively quick service, however, know that many have complained that sometimes you might end up receiving a call asking you to pay money for custom fee, though they claim it has been paid when you ordered the product.
What about free shipping?
Yes, some items come with free shipping, however, tracking is not provided. I hardly use free shipping, because, definitely, the cost of shipping is already added to the item price.
If you don’t like free shipping, you can still decide to opt for paid shipping.
There is nothing wrong going for free shipping, it just depends on how the seller handles your item.
Why does it take so long to deliver?
This is a difficult question to answer.
Every company has their way of carryout business operation. In business operation, it normally difficult to work very fast when dealing with several third parties.
aliexpress leverage on several third services to deliver orders all over the world. The distance from China to Nigeria is also a consideration. Packaging and unpackaging of goods is also another important thing to consider here.
The goods on aliexpress are sold by third-party sellers, who have their own way of treating a customer order. I ordered a $9 microphone and use China Mail, I was surprised I got a call from the delivery man in two weeks. I was expecting it to take three to four week since I used China Mail.
However, there is always a faster way of doing anything. It definitely must improve over time, as long as they want Nigeria to keep patronizing them.
6. Do they have a pickup office in Nigeria?
For now, they don’t, even in Lagos. You will most times pick it up from the post office nearest to you. If you use major carriers like DHL or EMS, just stay at home, they will bring to you.
My recent order landed in my workspace, and I used the normal China Mail. So even if you don’t use services like DHL or EMS, some of the guys at the post office can decide to bring to you expecting to get a little change.
Make sure you have like N200 to N500 for those guys at the post office.
7. Delivery method While ordering multiple items
Can I get them at once?
Yes, you can.
You can order several different items or the same goods more than one.
Getting your orders boils down to the shipping method you selected and the seller. So, most of the time you won’t get it at once. Different sellers sell different products using different shipping methods.
Which of the post office will I get my order(s)?
How should I enter my shipping address, how will it look like?
Give your correct resident details as clear as possible. Here is an example.
Address 1: Suite B19, Wuse Shopping Complex, Wuse Zone 5
Address 2: Behind Custom office, Wuse zone 3
State: Federal capital territory or Abuja
ZIP Code: 900285
In case you don’t know your zip or postal code, simply google the name of your city + zip. e.g “Wuse zone 5 zip code”
Do yourself good and help the delivery man, put your most active phone number.
Do they ship to anywhere in Nigeria?
Can I track my order?
Sure! you can track your order when you select a paid shipping method.
Note that, free shipping, you won’t be able to track your order. Try as much to pay some few extra dollars for a paid shipping method.
Actually, tracking is not what you think, there is nothing so special in tracking. Just a sense of where your item is.
What if I don’t get my order?
If it doesn’t work out, you’ll be refunded.
Will I get a call or email from the post office?
I can say, that in most case, you will get a call from the post office or the delivery man.
8. Payments / Charges
How can I pay?
You simply pay with your debit or credit card. You can also use Paypal if you don’t want to be entering your card details every time.
Credit or Debit card?
This is not different from your ATM card. Simply use your ATM card for payment.
In Nigeria, we have three debit card you can use to process web transaction; MasterCard, Visa, and Verve.
MasterCard, Visa, or Verve, which one can I use to pay?
MasterCard and Visa can be used to make payments on aliexpress.
Verve can’t be used to make international web transaction. Verve card won’t work on aliexpress, try request a MasterCard from your bank.
I use my GTBank master card when I purchase from aliexpress, try yours, GT card works like fire.
Try it again, you may have entered the card details, incorrectly.
Having troubles making payment with your card? Kindly contact your bank to get a lasting solution.
If your MasterCard or Visa doesn’t have your name on it, then I will suggest you request one with your name on it.
I have seen some ATM cards without the persons’ name or CVV on it. This is mostly due to the type of account they opened. Account created with just a passport usually fail to pay online. Make sure you contact your bank if you are having difficulty in making payments online.
Is the payment made in Naira or Dollars?
Dollars is currently the default currency display for the price of an item. You can simply multiply the dollar amount by naira equivalent to a dollar to know how much you will be charged.
However, if you’re getting the price in dollars, you can always change the currency to Naira.
Since they charge in dollars won’t it be expensive?
No, it is naira equivalent.
Items on aliexpress are cheap.
You can compare the price to Amazon or other Nigerian stores and see. aliexpress is by far the only online store with relatively low price items. Most items on the site are made in China and other Asian countries. Asians are known for making cheap but also quality products.
Most of the electronics, gadgets, and jewellery we buy from Nigeria retailers were produced in China.
What normally add to the price is the shipping cost. Some carriers fee can be 5X the product price. If you’re considering the money you’re to spend, then go for a cheap shipping method.
Normally, coupons are given to new users.
