Alex Sandro: ‘Juve need great second leg’

Alex Sandro warns Juventus need to “play the same way we did against Atletico Madrid – or even better” to eliminate Ajax from the Champions League.

Cristiano Ronaldo had opened the scoring in Amsterdam with a diving header, but David Neres sealed the 1-1 result after the restart.

“We knew it would be difficult here, Ajax played very well and so did we, although we must improve and have more possession. It was still a good performance,” the Brazilian told Sky Sport Italia and Rai Sport.

“When we reach this stage of the competition, it’s difficult to make predictions. Ajax are doing well, they have talented players and we just have to focus on our work.”

Juve lost the first leg of their Round of 16, 2-0 to Atletico Madrid, and turned that around with a 3-0 home victory.

On the other hand, Ajax lost 2-1 at home to Real Madrid and ended up progressing to the next phase.

“Every game has its own story. I think we need to play the same way we did against Atletico Madrid – or even better! Considering we scored an away goal, it’s a good result.

“It’s a pity Douglas Costa didn’t score, as he would’ve deserved a goal.”
