Failed PSG deal in the Winter

On Deadline Day of the winter transfer window, Luciano Acosta (Photo) of D.C. United was about to join Paris Saint-Germain. The transfer failed, however, as the clubs could not agree on a transfer fee. As the 24-year-old attacker has now confirmed, he is once again in the spotlight of a European heavyweight: Manchester United.

“I’m obviously happy [United] were here,” said Acosta. “They came to see me, and obviously I just went out and tried my best,” Acosta is quoted as saying by “Goal.” Scouts from the “Red Devils” had watched him on Saturday in the 0:4 loss to Los Angeles FC. With Juan Mata (30), Ander Herrera (29) and Andreas Pereira (23) all expected to leave the Premier League club due to expiring contracts this summer, space will be opening up in ManUtd’s midfield. In signing Acosta, however, ManUnited reportedly have to reckon with several competitors: Other clubs from England, France, Turkey and Saudi Arabia are said to be interested.

Acosta moved from the Boca Juniors to D.C. United in January 2017. His contract is set to expire in December 2019. He was set to move to Paris on January 31st due to his creation of 25 goals in 33 MLS games last season, which attracted PSG. “I was really happy, very excited,” he summed up to “L’Équipe” on the failed Transfer. “I’m still young, I still have a lot of time ahead of me. I’ve got to get things right to improve so PSG can show interest in me again.” In the current season, Acosta managed an assist and a goal in five league games.
