Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the European Union has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to consolidate on the gains of the 2015 general elections
Head of the European Union (EU) delegation to Nigeria and the Economic Community for West African State (ECOWAS), Ambassador Ketil Karlsen, gave the charge at the 2019 INEC Youth Summit in Abuja on Tuesday.
“In 2015, Nigeria set a vital example to herself, Africa and to the entire world by demonstrating how a democratic outcome of a democratic election can prevail.
“This is the same hope that we have that further consolidation of democracy as we approach the next election on the 16th of February and second of march this year,” he said.
Responding, Chairman of INEC, Prof Yakubu Mahmood, noted that the commission is determined in ensuring that all groups are given equal opportunity in the elections.
